RELAX WITH RIOJA GRAN RESERVA

"Bodega Faustino has been crafting wines of tradition and expertise for more than one hundred and fifty years. We just received the 95 point 2006 Bodegas Faustino Rioja Faustino I Gran Reserva, a stunning bottle of Rioja, which we are selling for an amazing price. The last vintage of this Gran Reserva we had sold for $34.99, and I’m thrilled to have this one for under $27! Readers of Eric Asimov’s New York Times Wine School column might remember that he recommended this wine a couple of months ago in a Rioja Gran Reserva roundup (where he listed the price as $35). He noted that the wine’s ‘aroma was getting interesting, spicy with dried flowers and balsam. On the palate, it had the mellow fruit-and-oak combination I love, with a tobacco, mineral component as well.’ Decanter awarded it the Gold Award at their World Wine Awards, noting how ‘lovely’ the wine is now. With all the wet weather we have been having, a nice stew and a wine this good sounds like perfection." – Jim Knight, The Wine House
