El Nido is the collaboration between the Gil family, one of Spain’s leading wine families, and Chris Ringland, one of Australia's best winemakers. Year after year, the wines from El Nido are exceptional – lush, powerful and intense – with the Clio being predominantly Monastrell (aka Mourvedre) and El Nido being predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon. El Nido is one of Spain's most 'collectible' wines, and we can’t keep either of them on the shelves – by the time the scores come out, they are both sold out! Both of these opulent wines pair magnificently with pasta dishes, all sorts of meats (stews, grilled meats, roasts), sausages and mature cheeses.

TASTING NOTES: This wine exhibits a glass-coating opaque purple color. It has an expressive nose of pain grille, briar, minerality and blueberry and blackberry overtones. This plush, opulent wine has great density, savory flavors and a very lengthy finish that gets better with age.

VINEYARDS: The vineyards of Bodegas El Nido include 12Ha (29.7 acres) of Cabernet Sauvignon and 32Ha (79 acres) of very old Monastrell, with a very low yield. The grapes are harvested in small baskets to prevent bruising, and only the best bunches are selected

TASTING NOTES: Glass-staining purple color. Explosive, alluring scents of blueberry, boysenberry, pipe tobacco, licorice and vanilla bean. Lush and broad but juicy and firmly built. Suave candied dark fruit flavors accented by floral and Asian spice qualities. Finished broad, juicy and impressively long, with echoing boysenberry and spice notes.

ABOUT EL NIDO

The winery is placed in the Valley of the Aragona, 10 kilometers north of the town of Jumilla, in the "top boundary", so named because it is the highest altitude in the municipality. The vineyards, located in the surrounding of the winery are planted on soils mostly of limestone and very stony surface. In the basement, about 30/40 cm. depth is a layer of coarse (medium consistency limestone) that covers the entire vineyard; its thickness ranges between 15 and 30 cm, having under a very sandy soil where the roots extend. The altitude varies from 700 m. and 850 m. above the sea level. They consist of small plots with a total of 32 hectares of the Monastrell variety, with some very old vines -almost centenarians-, 12 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon vines, and 1.8 acres of Syrah planted on hills facing the north.
