This is a phenomenal bargain – excellent juice at a fantastic price! On the nose, mixed red fruits blend
seamlessly with light spice, sandalwood, red plum reduction and fruit leather. The palate keeps the red fruit theme with raspberry and cherry cola in the foreground. This is forward and easy-drinking, light in acidity with gentle tannins. The dominant sweet fruits mesh with warm flavors of carob and light earthiness; the finish is relaxed with a focus on, again, sweet fruit. This is very tasty wine and a great way to introduce your friends to Bordeaux at a quite reasonable price.
Winemaker Notes Sumptuous in color, with a particularly subtle and pleasantly fruity aromatic strength, very ripe and concentrated flavors. Harmoniously balanced, expressive and generous, with finesse and elegance. A great length on the palate, with a lively appeal and remarkable cellaring potential thanks to very fine, yet clearly present,
tannins.
ABOUT CHATEAU MAUCAILLOU
Château Maucaillou, property of the Dourthe family since 1929, is a reference in Moulis but also in all the Médoc. It is ideally located on 90 hectares between Margaux and Saint-Julien, in the sector of Grand Poujeaux, on a terroir of garonne-gravel hillocks on a clay and limestone subsoil. Magali Dourthe, the technical manager, carries out meticulous vinifications in state of the art equipment. The fermentation begins at low temperatures in order to gently extract the flavors of the fruit and the finesse of the tannins. With 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, Maucaillou is a tender and velvety wine to be drunk young when it is fruity and fresh. Definitely a blue chip of the Bordeaux area.
